Your online business should be able to found through web searches, or else you can expect that those who would purchase from you would be your friends over and over again. Not that it's bad; but you have to recognize that some time later, your niche selection will reach its consumption peak and purchase from you in lesser intervals. Therefore, you have to expand your target market. And one of the ways for you to do this is to do keyword research.
You do not need a specialized team to do this. All you have to do is take note of these guidelines:
- List down all the keywords that are related to your products. Make sure that you cover all the products and/or services that you offer. You may group them together, at least in your list, if ever the list becomes too difficult to manage. These words will be essential in your niche selection.
- Think about each of the keywords and the groups of people who would be willing to purchase them. From male to female, kids to adults, enthusiasts to the newly-interested. You can play with these words and come up with phrases that you can use in your webpage, so that, when these people search for their profile plus the product, they can be directed to your webpage.
- Aside from the groups of people, your niche selection should also take note of the opportunities that these people will use your offered products and services. These opportunities can refer to specific occasions (like birthdays, weddings, parties), or times of the year (summer, fall, spring), among others. As what you did in the previous item, play with the words and target your market by combining the groups of people with the occasions wherein they would use your products and services. Make sure that when you post your products online, the phrases you came up with will be used. This will allow you to be specific in targeting your general market, and the subsections within the market per product offered.
